The Origin Of Cancer It's not that long ago, I remember viewing a program which discussed how some medical researchers identified half a dozen villages around the globe where the villagers all lived into their 90's and beyond. They went to these villages searching for the magic elixir of long life. I noticed that there were common attributes about the villagers in these remote locations. They were far from cities and the villagers relied on the land for their food and had gardens and all were closer to the equator than the US, which meant they were well tanned and enjoyed plenty of sunshine. More recently, I went to a seminar on the "Diagnosis and Treatment of Vitamin D Deficiency". I learned some startling facts. A chart was shown demonstrating how we do live versus our potential for a long life. The US ranks 38th in longevity (78.2 years) versus Japan ranked #1 with 82.6 years. In reality, there is another major factor that prevents long life from happening in the US as well as most developed countries. We live in a toxic world where our air, water and food and drink we consume are contaminated by minute amounts of various toxins, from man made chemicals, to traces of multiple pharmaceuticals in our water, to too many unnecessary chemicals and pharmaceutical additives in our food supply and the list goes on and on. It is the cumulative effect of these toxins over time through our adult years that add up to be detrimental to a long life. These toxins interfere with our body's ability to replicate our cells in a normal fashion and interfere with normal body metabolism. Another interesting fact is that our genes have receptor sites for Vitamin D. In fact, out of the 30,000 genes we have in our cells, around a 1,000 have a receptor site for Vitamin D so that the cell can properly perform its function. So, what happens when we don't have sufficient Vitamin D or another key nutrient in our body? Other chemicals, a virus, a nano-virus or toxin fills the void and attaches to these receptor sites, which in some cases create malfunctioning cells that begin to replicate. A cancer is born. The combinations and permutations are endless. That's why they have identified way over 2,000 different kinds of cancers. Now it is up to the killer cells, called T-lymphocytes to destroy these cells. If the individual's immune system is not healthy, then the cancer spreads and life ends earlier than what we are programmed for. Cigarette smokers are a perfect example of individuals that most likely will succumb to cancer since they are inhaling toxins and depleting their store of Vitamin D at the same time. Dr. Cedric Garland defines cancer development coming from the number of toxic "hits" that a person experiences in his life time. Our immune system weakens as we age and that is why 100 years ago cancer was called an old person's disease. That is before toxins in our environment became so rampant. Today, children are just as susceptible to cancer. Some may remember Love Canal where cancers were rampant in children and adults. Recently, a woman with Lymphoma mentioned to me the fight military personnel were having with the US government over the Camp Lejeune Marine base that had a toxic water supply, and cancer was rampant with the military families including their children. So far the US government has not recognized their responsibility. So, there you have it, we come into this world 99.9% perfect and it's down hill from there. What are our options? Collectively, we can do a lot. Read food labels. We have to reject factory produced foods that are not healthy for us. Local farmer's markets are great! Know our water supply and support efforts that reduce air pollution. Individually, we can do a self assessment of our nutritional health and make adjustments where needed. Supplement with nutrients such as Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Vitamin E and a Multiple Vitamin and mineral product. Most of the MDR's (Minimum daily requirements) for vitamins are low for the toxic environment that we live in. This is definitely true for Vitamin D, and it is rumored that there will be a revision to the MDR's for Vitamin D by the health agency in charge. Lastly, stay physically fit by exercising within your capacity. In the meantime, our Cancer treatment program continues to rely heavily on chemo treatment to fight cancer. In the US we spend 45 billion dollars per year, five times what Europe spends, with similar outcomes. Measuring a cancer patients vitamin D level is not high on the priority list overall. Some oncologists are waking up. On April 30th, 2010, a new cancer fighting drug called Provenge was approved by the FDA. It extends life for an additional 30 days over a current drug called Taxotere for those patients with terminal prostate cancer. The treatment costs $93,000. I wonder if they ever checked the Vitamin D blood level of the prostate cancer patients. You can't rely on the NIH, the FDA or ACA to recognize the need to fix the Vitamin D deficiency in this country as well as the VA to help the cancer patients from the Camp Lejeune Marine base, so it is up to each of us as individuals to reject food and water with toxins and support efforts to reduce air pollution and have our Vitamin D blood level checked. Collectively, we can make things happen. If you agree, let me know! | ||||||
