The F18 takes off by itself!WoW!! A few comments from a Vietnam Era Carrier Pilot. Things have not changed that much in my senile mind. They are still  flying EA-6B's, they are still nuclear, they still have steam catapults, they are still one of the fastest ships in the Navy at not 30+ knots but 40+ knots and the ships company has gone from 5 to 6000.  The A-4 Skyhawks wings were so short they did not have to fold them then (a rare exception).  The catapult launches are about the same but the strike aircraft (F-18's) are a world of difference.  We launched and recovered Aircraft 18 hours a day which I can attest to since my room was directly below the forward starboard catapult.  It actually got to be soothing and when they stopped launching I would wake up! Night Carrier Landings suck to say the least; all the rest is recreation. Anyway it was one hell of an experience.
