The Story of
The Candy Cane
Long ago, in London, England, John Taylor, a candy maker sat in his store thinking.
"All I can do is make candy, how can I tell children about the wonderful story of Jesus?"
"How can I tell them about His love and sacrifice for all of us?"
Then with joy he thought, "I'll make the children some candy.
Beginning with white symbolic of Jesus' sinless life and virgin birth,
I will make the candy pure white.
I will make it in the shape of the letter "J", for it is Jesus who saves us from our sins
And who is our Shepherd and the shape will also remind them of a shepherd's staff.
Then to remember the price of Christ's gift of salvation, I'll add three red stripes,
Since the Bible says by His stripes -- scourging -- we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
Then, I'll add one large broad read stripe for the shed blood of Jesus on the cross,
For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins." (Hebrews 9:22)
So the next time you see a Candy Cane, remember the white for holiness,
The three red stripes of Christ's suffering and the broad red stripe for His life given for you.
The letter "J" reminds us of Jesus who saves us from our sins and
Also the Great Shepherd's staff. (Hebrews 13:20; John 10:11)
May the candy cane be a sweet reminder of the
Reason For The Season!
