I quite often get asked, "where does the money come from for all of these $500 Tip Jars you are giving away".

 

Very simple really, i use to be a six figure income earner as a self employed entrepreneur. I had to be, i had a network of individuals who were dependent on me, thus keeping them productive so they could support their families.Then late 2005 i became physically disabled and lost all of that income (overnight). So my friends and family had convinced me to file for Social Security Disability (SSD) and anything else i could get my hands on. They said i deserved it from all the taxes i had paid for 38 straight years of my work life. 

 

Anyways, after a long wait, in early 2007 the government began to send me those measly SSD checks ... what a joke i said ... i use to make 2 to 3 times in a week to what my poor uncle sam gave me monthly. I gotta say, i felt very insulted, after working so hard for so long ... then only getting back pennies on the dollars i had paid in ... what a crock. I was going to send the SSD check back and tell them to keep it or give it to someone else who needed it ... but my caregiver (now my wife) KittyRose convinced me differently.

 

She said no, that the government and many non-profit charities were all crooks ... why not keep the money and give it away to people you know. I said, ok and since the only thing i could do at that time was play around online ... like many of you already know,  i purchased some premium web space & mailboxes through yahoo ... called YahooMisfits ... and started "giving" away the web space & mailboxes to all my friends and family (back during March 2007).

 

I also added a donation link to the front of all of my groups & sites and while not pushing, some folks did contribute from time to time. To be quite honest here, i didn't really care, since i wasn't expected to live much longer anyways and was only giving away what was left of my estate. So in a nutshell, each month, i would toss in the $1045 SSD check along with any member contributions.

 

It got to be where those funds started to exceed the cost of the email & web tools ... so i started giving away other stuff. Like in 2008 ... knowing that my own "D-day" was drawing near ... i offered to purchase and ship (through Amazon.com) absolutely free to anyone who promised to read themselves and then give away ... the new Ron Paul book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto" ... i wound up giving away 638 of those books and with the web tools ... all that carried a price tag of just over $13,000.

 

Due to some TOS violations, "we the misfits" lost our email & hosting package with yahell ... so i cranked up my own web server with StumpySteve.com and shopped around and found a whale of a deal with Google using their Google Apps Premier Edition for our MisfitsCafe domain email & other toys. The only problem here, was the price ... which exceed what i could afford for all the members who were involved (at that time) ... so as most of you already know ... in the spring of 2009 ... i began to offer a pre-launch on this package.

 

Several members wanted it ... but could not afford ... so i started a pool where those who could, did what they could. I figured it on a share basis of $10 and we would pool the funds and after paying all of the bills ... give back the rest ... based on shares held. Well while playing in the background with this simple formula .... one thing led into another and here we are today ... the following list reflects every penny that has ever been donated by every member in ALL of our groups, collectively known as the MisfitsCafe.

 

With each $10 in donations the member was granted what we call a Tip Jar (TJ) ,,, which works like a hybrid share of corporate stock & a US Saving Bond ... in the beginning these TJ's were granted a Fave Value of $100 each ... Effective Nov. 1st ... the value was raised to $500 ... meaning for every $10 one of our sponsoring members (otherwise known as PROmisfits) contributes to the pool ... they are granted one $500 Tip Jar.

 

Each month, after paying all of our bills & taxes ... all the proceeds are returned back to the Tip Jars based on total count and three levels of membership. That part is a bit beyond the scope of this post ... but in a nutshell, ALL members are granted one free $500 Tip Jar just for being an active MisfitsCafe group member and another with each birthday (year after year) --- now you know why i'm still breathing - lmao --- Additional TJ's can be acquired as gifts from other members or as stated previously with optional donations or pledges.

 

WE live in a world of give & take. I've found that some enjoy the giving, while others prefer to receive. However, all in all, over time, most wind up doing both. The following list reflects the GIVERS and their total donations from 3/7/07 through 11/21/10 ... which is making possible the free Tip Jars you ALL are currently holding.
