MisfitsCafe.com - Some Great Jazz From Yesteryear

Comprised mostly of alternate takes with a few previously unissued items, these tracks feature the classic Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet of 1954-56. Best is a "new" version of "I'll Remember April" that also features tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins and a fully restored "Jordu"...It's a nice alternative for more casual fans who don't want to invest the time or money in a ten CD box set.

Warren Vaché works magic on the cornet, an instrument that has somewhat unjustly fallen out of favor compared to the trumpet or flugelhorn.  Vaché, who is joined by the brilliant pianist Bill Charlap along with the solid rhythm of bassist Dennis Irwin and drummer Eddie Locke, kicks off the CD with a terrific talkative muted solo in "Close Your Eyes."
